MADHYA PRADESH, INDIA- Meet Dishu, a bright and helpful 6 year old who loves to cycle. She lives in Betul, Madhya Pradesh with her mother and siblings. Sadly, Dishu has endured incredible pain and loss in her young life due to burn scars that threatened her future.

A Terrible Accident Causes Burns

When Dishu was only 4 years old, she was sitting and watching her mother cook on an open wood fired stove in their humble village hut. Dishu lost her balance and was propelled towards the burning stove. She got terrible burns on both her legs as the hot coals and woodfire seared her skin. Doctors in the village gave her first-aid and then her parents rushed her to the hospital where she was given some medicines which were not very effective. Dishu was filled with fear and pain cried non-stop.  Her parents could no longer bear to watch her agony but neither could they afford the  treatment she needed.

A Need for Surgery in India

The burn scars had left the skin on Dishu’s legs badly contracted, sharply restricting her movement, and it only got worse as she grew. She could only walk with her legs bent. To compound the issue, Dishu’s father passed away shortly after the surgery. Dishu’s mother now became the only bread winner and met the household needs by working as a daily wages labourer. Eating two square meals became a struggle, affording hospital treatment was out of the question. The injuries made it difficult for Dishu to perform basic life tasks and particularly to walk to school, as the contractures made it difficult for Dishu to walk properly. Though her whole life was still before her, things were looking very bleak for Dishu. Then faithful Operation Blessing partners like YOU stepped in to change her life with burn scar surgery.

You Made Burn Scar Surgery Possible

After hearing about her situation, Operation Blessing raised funds through compassionate people like you. Soon, all the money needed for Dishu’s burn scar surgery had been raised! Since then, Dishu has had her operation and is making a remarkable recovery—all thanks to the generosity of friends like YOU. “Now I get ready to go to school by myself. I love cycling. Now I can ride my cycle very fast and take my brother behind me for a long ride”, says Dishu joyfully.
