Mithun - A new happy life

A few days before the Christmas of 2009, Pastor Mohan Pawar met 10 year old Mithun for the first time...

A few days before the Christmas of 2009, Pastor Mohan Pawar met 10 year old Mithun for the first time. It is a relationship that developed over minutes. That day the pastor was travelling in the train and Mithun was in the same train begging for food. It was in this train that Mithun’s life took a different track. Pastor Mohan took notice of this talkative little kid and he spoke to Mithun with loving and caring words. Mithun took an instant liking to him. He held on to the pastor’s hand and started walking with him without asking any questions about where they were going.

Pastor Mohan took him to his home and took care of him for about three days. But however he could not accommodate him for longer than that. Therefore he took Mithun right away to Father’s Delight Children Home which Pastor Arun S. Ranbise was in charge of. He then narrated Mithun’s story to both pastor Arun and Mrs. Shubhangi who took care of the children’s home.

Mithun is from Rajasthan and his mother got married to a man who was already married and an alcoholic. He also had children from his first wife. His father would beat Mithun everyday mercilessly. Sometimes under the influence of alcohol, sometimes even when he was sober. It became difficult for Mithun to bear this every day. So one day Mithun decided to run away to get far from the pain he felt every day. When he decided this, Mithun was just seven years old. This little child left his house and since the past three years he was living on the streets. He earned his daily meal by doing many odd jobs and made the railway station his home.

Some days he would not get enough money to eat and he would spend it hungry. His appearance was very shabby, nobody told him about cleanliness, and neither could he afford a new pair of clothes. Staying on the streets introduced him to many bad habits, like chewing tobacco, drinking, smoking and many other habits that were not right for anyone. But the turn of events through pastor Mohan introduced him to a better life. The day he entered Fathers Delight Children Home, Mithun gave up his bad habits.

As soon as he was joined in the home, pastor Arun bought him a new pair of clothes and footwear. Mithun was very excited and happy. His friendly nature helped him mingle with everyone well. Christmas was a perfect event that helped Mithun experience the new found joy and security.

Another thing that was noticed was, Mithun had injury marks on his fore head and on his skull. He also had some defect in his right hand and leg. On observing these, pastor Arun took him to the Wanless Hospital, Miraj for C.T. Scan (Brain) Neuro specialist Dr. Sasi who had recommended the scan assured that Mithun would slowly become normal and his right leg and hand will become normal too.

Mithun speaks Hindi and loves to exercise his lovely voice singing songs continuously, many of which are popular film songs. Since he had joined them mid way the home decided to tutor him for six months in the home itself and in June 2010 they would enroll him into a school.

It was just one kind person who reached out to a small child in need and a whole new life began. Without pastor Mohan or the Father’s delight home the trains would still have one more little child begging for food.
