Munniyandi receives timely help for his TB

Operation Blessing India conducted a free medical camp partnering with Gilgal Charitable trust in Chinnapalayam village. Fishing is the main occupation of the residents of this sea-side village. This remote village lacks many amenities, even the nearest government hospital in Rameswaram is 14 KM away from the village. On coming to know of the medical need in this village, OBI conducted a free medical camp in this village where many benefited from the free medical check-up and medicines.

Munniyandi a  65 year old man living in the village was one of those who needed this camp. Three years back Munniyandi had lost his wife. Since the bereavement, life had become very difficult for him. He has three sons and Munniyandi decided to stay with his eldest son who was a fisherman. His daughter-in-law also helps his son while fishing. Both of them are occupied with their own lives and cannot give Munniyandi the time, attention or care that he needed coming to terms with his recent tragedy. There was no one to even see when he would suffer. Eventually the depression took a toll on his health.

Munniyandi was suffering with severe cough and fever since seven months when OBI had set up camp there. His sons were not bothered and wrote it off as a symptom of old age. Munniyandi tried to cure this ailment by taking medicines recommended by a medical shop for cough and fever. No matter what he did, he did not get relief from the cough and fever. He did not even have the money to go to a better hospital. Even if he did manage to collect the money, he needs to travel 14kms to reach the government hospital of Rameswaram. But in his state it was essential that someone took him to the hospital and no one was ready to do so. His condition deteriorated day by day. He wondered if he was reaching the end of his life too.

To his relief and surprise, one day the local village Sarpanch (the ruling head in the village) announced about a free medical camp that was to be conducted in the village. On hearing the news, Munniyandi planned to go for the camp and consult the doctor for his sickness. He came on his own to the OBI medical camp by walking slowly from his house. He registered his name to consult the doctor. On examining him, the OBI doctor referred him to a few lab tests which were done then and there in the camp. The blood sample was taken from Munniyandi for a TB (Tuberculosis) test.  The report turned out positive for TB. The doctor then prescribed to him regular medicines from the government hospital which is mandatory for his healing. He also briefed Munniyandi about precautions he needed to follow, emphasizing the need for nutritious food and regular intake of medicines. Then, the doctor gave him medicines, syrups, vitamin tablets and protein powder. Munniyandi was also referred to the government hospital for further treatments. A person from the village took him to the hospital and he was admitted in the hospital for a week for a treatment.

Munniyandi was very happy after receiving medicines from doctor. He thanked OBI for taking care of him and helping in every possible way to help him get well. “I really saw God in the service of ob people. I will be thankful to all till the end of my life,” he said.

Dr. Mallika Chidambaram, founder Gilgal charitable trust also said “No one has given medicines as OBI did. Thanks for the good quality medicines to the poor and needy people .”
