It is a cherished dream of married couples to have their own children and for every parent their child is the most beautiful person in the whole world. As soon as a child is born the parents cherish the first sight of their baby, his cry, his smile, his eyes, his lips etc., and start finding out whom the child most closely resembles- the father or the mother. This is one of the happiest days in their lives. Anwar and Zubedha had the same dream.

Anwar and Zubedha were married for 3 years now. Anwar is an auto driver and Zubedha a home maker. After 2 years of their marriage, Zubedha had become pregnant. When Anwar heard this news, he did everything possible to take care of his wife because they had waited 2 long years for this moment. They wanted to have a healthy baby without any complications. Soon the day came for the delivery and Zubedha gave birth to a healthy baby boy. They were very happy holding their son, but their happiness was not complete as little Rehan was born with a cleft lip. When Rehan was taken to a doctor, they were told that a correction surgery can be done and their son can look normal, but it would cost them a lot for the surgery and Anwar could not afford such an amount. His monthly income is just Rs.4,000 and the surgery cost was close to Rs.15,000 which is almost 4 months of his income. So they reluctantly gave up the thought of getting little Rehan operated.
Ten months passed by, one day as Anwar dropped a passenger from his auto at a destination, he was asked by a couple with a small baby to take them to a hospital, he readily agreed and as he was driving the auto, he started asking about their baby’s health and dropped them at the hospital. This trip proved to be priceless to him and he was very happy dropping this family, not that he received some extra money but he came to know some valuable information which would be very helpful for Rehan. The baby with the couple had a cleft lip and was being taken for surgery to the OBI partner hospital where OBI-sponsored cleft surgeries are done. Anwar took all the necessary information and within two days Zubedha brought Rehan to the hospital and he was checked and was admitted for the surgery. Both Anwar and his wife were eagerly waiting to see their son’s face with a complete smile.The joy which was incomplete at Rehan’s birth was now overflowing on seeing the little one after surgery. Zubedha’s eyes were filled with tears of happiness and she was very thankful to OBI for sponsoring this surgery and said, “Thank you OBI for giving my son a complete smile. We were missing this lovely smile from his birth, my son looks so beautiful”.Like Rehan, many children and adults are being blessed by OBI-sponsored Cleft lip and palate surgeries. This sponsorship is especially for patients who are economically backward and are not in a position to afford the cleft surgery.
