Dear Friends,
We have been sharing with you wonderful things that have taken place in our medical camps, through the Living Waters Project and Vidhya Jyothi. The needs are overwhelming and they would have gone unheeded and unfulfilled. But thanks to you my dear partners, we have been able to reach out to people various needs. You have made a difference and brought back hope and joy in the lives of everyone you touched through your compassionate and selfless giving….
Just like you did for Rahul, a bubbly and cute young boy of 6 years……
Rahul’s parents, Lakshmaya and Sita Devi were from Shadnagar in Mehboobnagar district, AP. He has 3 older sisters. His father, Lakshmaya contracted HIV and later transmitted it to his wife. His father died soon after while his mother was left to take care of the children by herself. The loss of her husband and pregnant with a baby at the time, took a great toll on her. She later gave birth to Rahul, the long awaited son. Later she came to know that she was also HIV+. The news left this grief stricken mother numb. After garnering enough courage, she took her children to be tested for HIV. The 3 girls’ results were negative while Rahul was tested positive. No words could console and comfort her. One day her crying stopped. She breathed her last. Her children had nowhere to go. Relatives tried helping them by keeping them under their care but they couldn’t do so for long as they were not well off.
Rahul’s uncle, Mahesh, took up the responsibility of taking care of the children. The girls were kept in a government school but there was no taker for Rahul as he was HIV+. He was literally abandoned. One day, one of the relatives mentioned about an orphanage near Hyderabad which is supported by OBI. Rahul’s uncle brought him to the HIV kids’ home. Here Rahul found acceptance and love. He found kids his age with whom he can play and be with. The home also provided for all his needs.
It has been 6 months now since Rahul came to the home. He has been enrolled in a school and supported by OBI on a regular basis.
A Christmas party was conducted by OBI few days back. Rahul thoroughly enjoyed himself along with 23 other kids at the home
We also would like to share this story about Sujatha with you and how your giving has helped her in so many ways.
Sujatha belong to Hayathnagar Mandal, Ranga Reddy District, AP. Her husband works as a cook at wedding receptions. Being the only breadwinner of the family took him away from home most of the time. The New Banjara Colony they reside does not have an adequate or hygienic source of drinking water. They had to depend on a mobile tanker that comes to their neighbouring colony. This water is then stored in cement water tanks.
After having given birth to her third child, Sujatha had no time to sit and recuperate. Her household chores and filling water at home beckoned her. Everyday she had to take about 10 trips to the tank. This was very tedious as the journey each way was a kilometer in distance. She had to leave her newborn baby at home. But Sujatha had no option. These trips also took away all her energy and strength.
Sujatha was ecstatic when OBI drilled a well in her colony. This can be reflected when she said, “I am very happy to have this bore well in our colony. It has relieved my tension in fetching water. I can now do so at any given time and also take care of my children. Thank You, OBI.”
Heartwarming stories like these take place because of your love and faithfulness in supporting us. You drilled that well for Sujatha and her colony and you provided Rahul with a home when he would have otherwise been homeless. For this, OBI is very grateful and so are the thousands of people you help through us.
